Six Sigma Process

A business process is a mean to achieve the end objectives of the business. More often than not, we have heard business managers lamenting on the fact that the objectives of the business have not been met. Deeper analysis have resulted in fingers being pointed at the failure of the processes to sustain itself. A six sigma process is a re-engineering of the company's business process which makes it so robust that it starts delivering at the rate of 3.4 Defects per Million Opportunities (3.4DPMO). With lesser defects arising out from the process implementation, customers of a product or service provided by the company are getting increasingly sensitive to the fact that companies driven by a six sigma process can deliver the results to them continually on a qualitative basis.

What is a Six Sigma Process?

A Six Sigma process is a reengineered business process. Any business process which does not meet the business objectives is flawed in design and implementation. Using Six Sigma methodologies, one can remodel the business process to minimize the variations in the results.

What are Six Sigma Methodologies?

The type of methodology would differ depending on the business process that the company wishes to remodel. Should you want to design a new process which is intended at providing new perspectives to customer satisfaction, you should use DMADV( Define, Measure, Analyze, Design and Verify) or DMADOV( Define, Measure, Analyze, Design, Optimize and Verify). With the industry focus changing nowadays to Research and Development, plenty of business managers are looking to adapt the I2DOV( Invent, Innovate, Design, Optimize and Verify) mechanism. There are many other Six Sigma Process methodologies which are on offer to the business managers. Using any of these process methods, a business manager can aim to successfully reengineer his business process to a Six Sigma Model.

Who implements a Six Sigma Process?

The key to effective execution of a Six Sigma Process relies entirely on the way it impacts the business processes. Essentially, most of the businesses have oriented their business goals on lines of customer satisfaction and six sigma processes are the ones which work tirelessly to minimize the variations to the result. In order to achieve this, a whole cross section of employees from a company would need to be active participants in a Six Sigma project.

  • Executive Leadership - CEO and other management team members.
  • Project Champions - Project owners (generally business managers), who own the execution and the design of the project.
  • Six Sigma Experts - In a general business atmosphere, these are professionals who are distinguished on their expertise with Six Sigma practices. They are known as Green Belt, Black Belt, Master Black Belts with each name identifying with the level of Six Sigma expertise.

A combined concoction of a good process design with an effective implementation team can be a good foundation to reengineer your processes.
