Six Sigma Training Material
We all would agree by now that Six Sigma is the best possible approach for a company to turn their non-performing, mission-critical processes to the best performing processes leading to increased customer satisfaction. For a professional to get certified in Six Sigma, he would need to undergo professional training in Six Sigma methodologies. The other option for the professional would be to refer to a Six Sigma training material which is available by the lots over the internet. In fact, many institutes who conduct training programs for Six Sigma methodologies offer Six Sigma Training material to be distributed.
There is no hiding of the fact that you would get many books on Six Sigma methodologies either on the internet or in your nearest bookstore. As I have come across some of these books and read it, I feel that some of them are worthwhile Six Sigma Training material. Based on the way I read the books, I would like to come up with the ideal way to structure a Six Sigma Training material, though I have myself not made one.
- The Overview of Six Sigma - This will describe the origin of Six Sigma, which companies implemented it first and what were their benefits.
- Basics of Six Sigma - This will describe the basics of Six Sigma - the DMAIC tool, the DMADV tool. This will also entail in brief as to which tool needs to be used when.
- Six Sigma Methodologies - This will describe in detail the DMAIC and the DMADV model. A lot of information about Statistical controls and reporting for each stage should also be discussed here.
- Six Sigma roles and responsibilities - Since, Six Sigma is a people centric process, any training material will be an incomplete six sigma study guide if roles and responsibilities of different team members of the implementation team is not talked about. Six Sigma roles and responsibilities must clearly categorize "Who does what?" in terms of the process so that everyone gets a clear visibility on the process implementers.
- Case Study - A Six Sigma Training material can be complete in all forms if and only if, some sample case studies are enclosed. These sample case studies some of the issues which companies have scoped in their project, and the methodology they took to fix the issue. I have seen some training materials which have problems for the readers to fix. These problems form the initial scope of the project which the resource must fix by adopting the Six Sigma methodologies which he learnt from the Training material.
All this would mean that a Six Sigma training material, if properly structured can be used as a Six Sigma Pocket guide which will guide you during your Six Sigma process improvement implementation.
