Order Requests

Books, DVDs, & eBooks

As faculty, you know your field better than anyone on campus. You know what types of materials your students need to complete their assignments and which resources are required for program accreditation or review. The library staff makes decisions every day about what should be added to the collection based on the student assignments we see and by analyzing the curriculum at the college. Your knowledge helps the library to not only provide materials that supplement the curriculum, but also promote the success of the students. We invite you to submit order requests for materials that support your courses and ultimately support the missions of the library and ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø.

Periodicals

Many of our online databases contain full-text articles from magazines, professional journals, and newspapers. You can search NC LIVE by periodical title to find these publications. You can also email cccclib@cccc.edu to request a librarian's help with finding a particular publication or article.

Collection Review

A collection review provides insight into the materials the library currently holds and identifies what may be needed to support your program. All areas of the library collection are evaluated including books, reference materials, audiovisual materials, periodicals, online resources, and special collections (if applicable). Criteria for evaluation include currency of materials, collection usage, gaps in subject coverage, and appropriateness of scholastic levels. Faculty completing a collection review can recommend materials to be withdrawn and/or recommend new titles to be purchased by the library.

To ensure that the collection review serves your program needs efficiently and effectively, a collection review process follows the steps below:

  1. Initial Contact
Someone from your department (typically the chair and lead instructor) will be contacted by the ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø Library to request updated information about your programs and courses . This helps identify the appropriate collections for review.
  2. Report Preparation
Once the ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø Library receives this information, staff compile a collection report  and email it to the selected reviewer(s) from your department. A collection report includes a list of all materials related to your program, along with circulation (usage) data, provided in Excel format.
  3. Faculty Review
Upon receiving the report, you will determine which items should be withdrawn and which new materials should be added. This is done using the Library Collection Evaluation Form, included as part of the collection report. During this process, we encourage you to visit the library to review library materials in person and pull items recommended for withdrawal.

If you have any questions, please email cccclib@cccc.edu and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
